Gen Con 2011

I had a fantastic time at Gen Con 2011. I was able to roll my love of gaming into my love of scrapbooking. I taught 2 different classes over the 4 days and got to meet some very crafty ladies. I learned a lot and will definitely be back next year with new projects and ideas (and some simpler faster classes too). But enough with the chit-chat, lets get these projects started!

Steampunk Scrapbooking Layout and Card
Piercing Tool
Glue Dots
3D foam tape
Memories Bonding Glue (Blue Glue)
Waxy Flax

Bamboo (lightest brown)
Desert Sand (medium brown)
Cocoa (darkest brown)
Olive (green)
Outdoor Denim (dark blue)
Sunset (orange)

Stamp Sets Used:
B1347 Lifetime
B1392 Key Moments
C1422 Unity
C1439 Enjoy Life
C1467 Sweet Moments
D1257 Make It Count
D1422 Wonderful Friend

D1482 Love Life
D1481 Vintage Type
D1495 You & Me
S1109 Limited Edition

Create stamped images as indicated in photo using Cocoa, Desert Sand, Outdoor Denim, Olive, and Sunset. Trim all images.

Distress all papers using edge distresser as desired, water, and Desert Sand Ink. Using Bamboo ink pull the color in towards the center on the base to add a more aged look. Assemble the layout as indicated in the picture. Note there is a green 12x1 strip about 1" from the left, followed by a 6x3 Cocoa cardstock. Beneath that is a 4x3 bamboo cardstock with a photo on top and lastly a 2x3 piece of B&T pattern paper.

Next add brads, glitz glue, and liquid glass to images as desired. For a cracked liquid glue look, first allow to dry completely. Then place the accent in the freezer overnight. Remove and break the image to create cracks. Ink over cracks to emphasis.

Add clock accents starting with the biggest first and gluing directly to the layout. Then using 3D foam tape layer the clocks with the biggest on bottom and smaller ones on top. When adding butterfly put 3D foam tape beneath spine only and fold wings upward and out. Randomly stamp screws, washers, and gears around accent cluster. Using 3D foam tape add a few 3D gears around cluster too. Add cracked glass Cami to bottom left of layout. The screws on the lock should be added with 3D foam tape to give more dimension.

Title Piece: Stamp title and fill in journalling. Arrange stamped keys and metal arrow with hemp and tie to ribbon. Add ribbon to title piece using glue dots. Add small butterfly with 3D foam tape to spine only. Adhere title to page about 2 inches from bottom and 3/4 inch from right. Add two copper brads to the lower portion of the layout directly under title piece about 1/4 inch apart. Add a cluster of stamped and cut out gears to lower right corner of layout out.

On the right page add stamped images with 3D foam tape. For tags add hemp and brads to the tag tops. Thread buttons with hemp and then adhere with glue dots directly to layout. Add hemp across photos and tie a small bow of ribbon on hemp. Stamp a few screws around and add butterflies.

Stamp clock pieces from D1257 and B1392 Stamp Set onto the 2 circle pieces in Cocoa Ink. To make hands move stamp the clock arms on another sheet of card stock and cut out leaving a large amount of white at the base for the brad to go through. Using the piercing kit position brad through both arms and round clock front. Stamp Sentiment on rectangle colonial white piece in Cocoa Ink from D1257. Directly apply Desert Sand Ink to the Bamboo card base and B&T paper. Then assemble by adhering B&T paper across the middle of the card base then adding sentiment with 3D foam tape and Clock Accents.

Creative Cardmaking

Prep Work:
Sort all precut pieces of paper into 6 piles grouping like numbers together. So all the "1's" are in one pile, "2's" in another, etc. I use the card bases as little envelopes to help divide the paper.

Card 1:
Stamp clock peices from D1257 Stamp Set onto the 1G circle of colonial white. If you want the arms to move you need to stamp those seperately, trim, and attach with a brad. Note while cutting arms out besure to leave a large amount of colonial white at the base so the brad has something to attach to. Using the same stamp set also stamp the larger gear in desert sand ink several times across the base of 1B. Trim the border piece you just created. Stamp the sentiment in outdoor denim onto the Bamboo peice 1F. On 1E use stamp set C1439 to stamp the spiral background image in desert sand ink behind the clock.

Next distress all papers as desired. I used the edge distresser on various sheets. I ink distressed all papers in desert sand. On the sentiment (1F) I also used water distressing to curve edges.

Lastly assemble card starting with adhering 1A and working your way up to 1F. Add Riddbon with ribbon slide using Glue Dots. Add Bitty flower with brad and add a brad to the clock. Adhere clock with 3D foam tape.

Card 2:

Stamp sentiment from C1439 on 2E in Outdoor Denim Ink. From stamp set D1257 stamp the numbers on 2C in Outdoor Denim as well. Distresses edges of all paper with Desert Sand Ink.

Assemble card by adhereing piece A and working your way up to piece E. Trim peice 2E. Add hemp or waxy flax to inside of buttons then adhere with glue dots. Add ribbon to ribbon slide using glue dots then add to card.

Card 3:

Distress all papers (except 3C) using Desert Sand Ink. Stamp bodice from D1452 in Outdoor Denim Ink on the left of 3B. Stamp key from B1347 on upper right of 3B in Desert Sand Ink. Overlaying at an angle stamp the word "friend" from D1452 in Olive Ink.

Using a marker create faux stitching around 3B. On 3C stamp butterfly from D1452 in Olive Ink. Trim butterfly and attach the spine using 3D foam tape to 3B. Add Bitty flower using piercing kit and brad to shoulder of bodice. Adhere 3B to 3A. Fold 3D back and forth in varying increments to create ruffles.
Attach this ruffle to 3A using glue dots. Trim as needed. Attach 3A to card base using 3D foam tape. Add Glitz Glue where desired.

Card 4:

Stamp Tickets from D1495 on 4K and 4J in Outdoor Denim Ink and Desert Sand Ink. Trim images and crinkle as desired, then add distressing ink. Stamp flourdelee in Olive Ink on 4L and trim. Stamp flourish in Outdoor Denim on 4A in lower left corner. Distress 4A, 4B, and 4C with Desert Sand Ink. Fold 4E, 4F, 4H, and 4I back and forth accordion style in even increments.

For smaller green fan flower fold accordion 4E in half. Repeat for accordion 4F. Glue dot the middle folded area together on both. Then glue dot each end of E to F. Using glue dots adhere to 4D. Add 4L accents.

For larger dark blue fan flower glue one end of 4H to 4I then loop around and glue other end together to create ring. Pinch middle of ring together and using glue dots adhere to 4G circle base. Add ribbon, metal embellishment and big brad to cover space in middle. Assemble Card from piece A to piece C then add fan flowers and tickets.

Card 5:

Using Outdoor Denim Ink stamp clock from C1439 on 5E and stamp clock ring from D1257 around it. On 5F create another ring from D1257 then stamp gears inside larger clock with Desert Sand Ink and distress both with Desert Sand Ink. Add 3 copper brads to larger clock using piercing kit.
Add Ribbon to piece B using Glue Dots. Assemble card starting with pieces A through D. Add Clock Embellishments with 3D foam tape. Add wood buttons using glue dots and top with glitz glitter.

Card 6:

Stamp sentiment from C1422 on 6D in Desert Sand. Also stamp design image from S1109 in lower right corner of 6D. Distress all papers with Desert Sand Ink. Trim two edges perpendicular of each other off 6B and save. Trim 3 -4 leaves out of scraps cut off. Assemble card from piece A through E.

Using the 3x3 Bamboo pieces cut each into a spiral. Starting at the outer most edge begin rolling the paper around itself. Continue until you reach the end then relax flower. Using glue dot adhere the flower to the base. Roll 3 flowers from 6F, 6G, 6H. Distress with Desert Sand and adhere to card. Tuck leaves under and add sparkles. Tie ribbon to create bow and attach using glue dots.
