May SOTM Blog Hop

I created this card using the Dotty For You Paper Packet (April-May Special), the Wishes How-To book along with some ruffled ribbon, and some liquid glass to fill in the middle of the flower.

I will be featuring this technique in a step by step instructional guide later in May. So be sure to check back once you have received your stamp of the month ;-)

Just a quick Hi!

I am still alive and kicking here in Chicago. I'll have lots of posts ready in May and I promise I will finish my trip to HI recaps! I hate when life gets super busy but I hope you all understand. Let's get started. Instead of creating a card or layout I want to show you how to create a hair headband using left over ribbon. For this project I used a 1" Sweet Leaf Grosgrain Ribbon, Bling Assortment, Glitter Buttons from the Bohemian Assortment, Clear Sparkles, and the Durable Studs. I also bought a plain white headband and cut a circle of plain felt for the bottom of the flower.

To start you'll notice a little white string stitched into the ribbon. You'll want to pull that out on one side. I did NOT cut my ribbon yet but you will need about 20-25" of ribbon depending on how large you want your flower. Since the string can pull completely out if you cut it early I wait until the end to trim my ribbon.

So you'll want to continue pulling the strings out of the one side of the ribbon. You'll notice that the ribbon will start to curl and spiral. You'll want to encourage this. Continue going around and begin layering the flower.

When you start the second row use glue dots or hot glue to secure the shape. You can add in extra folds and creases by adding dots too.

When you have finished the shape you'll need to secure the ends of the string as soon as you cut the ribbon. I even pull a little out as soon as I cut it and then tie several knots and secure with glue dots. Then hot glue the top part of the head band to the bottom side of the flower and add a patch of felt to the bottom part. Be careful NOT to place glue on the bottom part of the band (only on the flower & felt) because you don't want it to rub on the head and hurt.

Lastly you can decorate with top with the bling, button, sparkle, and stud.
